DLRR 2017 Reunion Picnic is Cancelled

The Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue (DLRR) 2017 Reunion Picnic scheduled for Sunday, March 5th has been cancelled.

Due to recently reported bacterial outbreaks in various valley locations, DLRR feels cancelling the event is in the best interest of the participants (both the dogs and the adopters) who would attend. This is in no way a reflection on the park where the event was going to take place. This cancellation is an outcome of information recently released to the public.

Public Announcement from Maricopa County

The Maricopa County Department of Health and the Arizona Department of Health Services recently issued information pertaining to the disease leptospirosis.  The bacteria that cause Leptospirosis are spread through the urine of infected animals, which can get into water or soil and can survive there for weeks to months. Humans and animals can become infected through contact with this contaminated urine (or other body fluids, except saliva), water, or soil. The bacteria can enter the body through skin or mucous membranes (eyes, nose, or mouth), especially if the skin is broken from a cut or scratch. Drinking contaminated water can also cause infection. Infected wild and domestic animals may continue to excrete the bacteria into the environment continuously or every once in a while for a few months up to several years.  More information can be found by emailing vbtf@mail.maricopa.gov or on the following website: www.cdc.gov/leptospirosis
